I’ve loved Wild for years. The movie was pretty good too.

I saw Taran Khan speak about her book at Kendal Mountain Festival last year and she was excellent.

I'd love to have gone too! I've just googled the festival – and see that it's possible to watch the films online (for a fee). Thank you for the heads-up... I see a lot more screen time on my horizon!!

Great list. And what benediction to have a wonderful writer as your love.

I was totally overwhelmed by Alfred Russel Wallace’s THE MALAY ARCHIPELAGO. A kindly man whose scientific explorations of these remote islands were conducted under extraordinary challenges of sheer survival!

It’s a brick of a book that will make you never whinge again whilst travelling.

Ah - The Malay Archipelago! It's on our shelf. Have to admit I've not read it – but Mark has, and I've enjoyed hearing snippets from it over the years. I used to do some writing work for someone who owned a superyacht in Indonesia, and so enjoyed exploring (too briefly) some of the islands that ARW visited. Of course, I was doing it in sheer luxury...

Thanks for the book rec’s. My goals for new year need to be a little more reading and since I may see myself stuck at chemo waiting rooms in the months coming up, it’s as good a place to start. I’ll definitely add Joanna Joseph’s book and Mark’s Vagabond.

2 recent reads I can proffer are “Perfectly Ordinary People” (Nick Alexander) and “Where Butterflies Wander” (Suzanne Redfern). The former left me contemplating so much about life before this age, about compromises and change.

Enjoy your travels this season,

Xx
